5 Worst Comic Book Movie Scenes
5 Worst scenes in a comic book movie
After re-watching a plethora of comic book movies over the last few weeks I was reminded of some of the best scenes and movies in the genre which prompted me to write about my top 10 comic book movie scenes from 2016. Having gotten that out of my system and in the interest of balance I decided I would write about the worst scenes ever in a comic book film. There are so many to write about so in an attempt to keep it short and sweet I am going to list my top 5 worst comic book movie scenes of all time. The ones that really make me cringe:
5 – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Deadpool’s mouth is sewn up
Okay this movie tends to get a beating but there is a good reason for that. It is pretty terrible and manages to piss off just about every comic book fan when they reveal Ryan Reynolds Wade Wilson has had his mouth sewn up. This might have been acceptable after some decent Deadpool movies but you can’t tease the fans with Wade Wilson (who was good at the start of the movie) and then take away the thing that makes the character great. That would be like seeing Tony Stark blow up his Iron Man suits… Wait a minute
4 – Superman 4 – Wall rebuilding Scene
This very scene undermines the entire world of the DC Universe and makes me wonder what this would do to the economy. Every humanitarian and left wing person on the planet would be calling for Superman to rebuild disaster stricken areas which would surely affect the construction market. Sure, applying logic to a comic book movie doesn’t ever work but I wanted to come at this from a different angle other that simply saying ‘really, rebuilding a wall with your eyes, that’s ridiculous even in comic book movie terms’
3 – Catwoman – Basketball Scene
I refuse to go back and re-watch this film but during my research for this article I stumbled upon the basketball scene which I have no recollection of. Having watched this scene again I can tell you that it absolutely should be on this list and would place higher if not for the number two and one spot. The reason it didn’t go higher is it didn’t ruin a legacy like the next two on my list. It was simply an awful scene in and dreadful movie. I guess what they were going for was trying to show a blossoming romance between Halle Berry and Benjamin Bratt’s character hoping that the audience would connect with them in some way. All I connected with was a sick bag and a reminder of the bad taste the 90’s left in the early 2000’s. Check it out.
2 – Batman & Robin – Credit Card Scene
I never thought this would be topped but the credit card scene in Batman & Robin comes in as my number two (pun intended) worst comic book movie moment ever. The caped crusader and his sidekick enter a bidding war with each other at an auction when George Clooney's Batman introduces his Bat credit card and announces that he ‘never leaves the cave without it’. I think most agree that this is a terrible movie and this scene sums the whole thing up for me. Bloody funny though.
1 – Spider-Man 3, Jazz Club Dance
I don’t know what Sam Raimi and Sony were thinking with Spider-Man 3. I was never a fan of the trilogy in general which I realise is a sin in the case of Spider-Man 2 but they just never appealed to me. The thing that really brings down the trilogy a few marks is 2007’s Spider-Man 3 which has a myriad of bad scenes but worst of all is Emo Peter Parker in the Jazz club. After a few minutes of face palming I made it through the scene speechless that this was in a Sam Raimi movie. It is just horrible in every way and totally unnecessary. Double time...
That’s it. There were so many bad comic book movie scenes to think about and consider adding to the list. What are your least favourite scene in a comic book movie?
